This requires the drivers which can be found by downloading the 'Microsoft Access Database Engine Redistributable' from here:

Access 2013

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39358

Access 2010

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=13255

These drivers will give SHAZAM (through its Data Connector) native support for the Microsoft Access format and ODBC support for the Microsoft Excel .xlsx format.

For the latter, select ODBC from the driver list in the Data Link and then create a new Machine Data Source and leave the Excel file blank when prompted. Subsequently, whenever using that connection you will then be prompted to select the Excel file name and the desired worksheet. Once you have narrowed down you dataset by adjusting the SQL statement written for you, then click the 'Add to Project' button to add the dataset to the current Project and use it for analysis.

However, starting from SHAZAM 11 (Professional or Enterprise) and enhanced in 11.1, SHAZAM stores the data connections and SQL as part of the users Workspace and so can read directly from all Data Connections in real time to retrieve data whenever needed. To do this configure the Data Connection and then use the default SQL statement supplied or create your own (eg. a SELECT statement or a call to a Stored Procedure).

Once this is done then SHAZAM will retrieve the latest data directly from source each time a SHAZAM technique is performed (N.B. this is supported in 11.1 onwards of the Professional Edition).
