I was recently trying to open a csv dataset, and when I got to the 41% complete point, a window opened and said that I was out of memory. How would I solve this problem? I'm trying to get this cvs file into a .dat type format for future use in a shazam project. If I can't solve this problem directly, is there any other way of doing this? The dataset has over 800,000 observations and 140 variables.

A dataset of this size on a 32bit computer may struggle to render in the editor as your computer will attempt to draw 112 million cells. This can be done if you have sufficient computer memory.

However, you should be able to read it and analyse it simply using the READ command with the PAR setting set appropriately. Save the file in a space or comma delimited format (PRN or CSV in Excel) and then try commands like:

PAR 1000000
READ(myfile.csv) / NAMES

If the names are on the first row SHAZAM will automatically pick up the variable names ready for analysis.

If you continue to have trouble, contact us through one of the methods on our Contact Page and we will assist.
